Libria

Informativa sulla privacy di Libria

Ultimo aggiornamento: 24 ottobre 2026.

In breve

7. Conservazione

Dati Dove Per quanto tempo

8. Chi riceve i dati e dove

Trasferimenti all'estero.

10. I tuoi diritti

8 GDPR; in Italia 14 anni, art.

14. Lingua

Libria Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026. Version 1.1, for the test version of Libria distributed through Google Play closed testing.

At a glance

1. Data controller

Giovanni Napoli, an individual, developer of Libria.
Affoltern am Albis (ZH), Switzerland
Email: gnapoli.dev@gmail.com (the single contact for privacy, support and reports)

No data protection officer or data protection advisor has been appointed: neither is required for this processing (Art. 37 GDPR; Art. 10 FADP). No representative in the European Union has been designated: for the processing in this version, which is occasional and low-risk, one is not required (Art. 27(2) GDPR). For any request, including from the EU, write to the address above.

2. Applicable law

The controller lives in Switzerland, so the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP, SR 235.1) applies. Libria is also offered to people living in the European Union and the European Economic Area: for them the General Data Protection Regulation also applies (GDPR, Art. 3(2)). For each processing activity we give the GDPR legal basis and the justification under Swiss law (Art. 31 FADP).

3. Data that stays on your phone

Libria stores in a private app database, on your device:

This data is not sent to the developer or to any Libria server: none exists in this version. The developer cannot read, change or delete it. We describe it for transparency: you decide how it is used.

Some features use it on the phone only:

Phone backup. If you turned on device backup, Android may include Libria's data in the backup on your Google account, managed by Google according to your settings. The developer has no access to it.

Deletion. You can delete books, notes and sessions in the app; uninstalling the app makes Android delete all of Libria's data from the phone (not what is already in a backup or in files you exported).

4. Data the developer receives

In this version the developer receives personal data only in these cases:

Libria contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools.

5. Text recognition with Google ML Kit

To read the text of a photographed page (and, where available, barcodes), Libria uses ML Kit, a Google library that runs on the phone: the photo and the recognised text never leave the device.

According to Google, while the feature is in use ML Kit sends Google, over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, technical data for diagnostics and usage analytics of the library: device and app information, performance metrics, feature configuration, input and output size, version, event type, error codes and a per-installation identifier that, according to Google, is not meant to identify the person or the device. Google states that it does not transfer this data to third parties. Details: https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure

Legal basis for choosing ML Kit: the developer's legitimate interest in offering reliable, on-device text recognition without sending photos to a server (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; overriding interest, Art. 31 FADP). If you do not want this data to be sent, do not use text recognition: the rest of the app works the same. Google processes the data under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

6. Joining the closed test

To let you join the closed test on Google Play, the developer adds your email address (the one of your Google account) to the testers list in Play Console, or invites you to a Google Group.

Google Play handles test enrolment and app distribution as an independent controller, under its own terms and privacy policy.

7. Retention

Data Where How long
Library, sessions, notes, photos, preferences on your phone only until you delete them or uninstall the app
Testers' email addresses Play Console (Google) until the end of the test, then deleted within 30 days
Messages and feedback developer's mailbox (Gmail), Play Console as long as needed to reply, at most 24 months
Statistics and crash reports Play Console (Google) as set by Google Play
ML Kit diagnostic data Google as set by Google

8. Who receives data, and where

International transfers. The developer processes the data he receives from Switzerland. The European Union recognises that Switzerland provides an adequate level of protection (Commission Decision 2000/518/EC, confirmed in 2024): data can reach it from the EU without further safeguards. Google may process data in the EU, the United States and other countries. For the United States, Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks, recognised as adequate by the European Commission and the Swiss Federal Council; for other countries Google uses standard contractual clauses. Details: https://policies.google.com/privacy/frameworks

9. Security

Libria's data lives in the app's private storage, which Android keeps separate from other apps. In this version no reading data travels over the network. ML Kit's communications with Google are encrypted.

10. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict its processing, to data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Arts. 15–22 GDPR; Arts. 25–28 and 32 FADP). For data on your phone you exercise them directly in the app: you can export your library (CSV, Markdown), edit it and delete it. For other data write to gnapoli.dev@gmail.com: we reply free of charge within one month. For data Google processes as an independent controller you can also contact Google.

If you think your data is being handled wrongly:

11. Age

Libria is designed for people aged 16 and over and is not intended for anyone under 14. In this version no processing is based on consent. Where an online service asks for consent, in the EU the age at which you can give it yourself is set by each country between 13 and 16 (Art. 8 GDPR; 14 in Italy, Art. 2-quinquies of the Italian Personal Data Protection Code); in Switzerland there is no fixed age: what counts is the person's capacity of judgement (Arts. 16 and 19c of the Swiss Civil Code). Below that age a parent's consent is needed. If you are a parent and think your child under 14 is taking part in the test, write to us and we will remove them from the testers list.

12. No automated decisions

Libria makes no automated decisions that produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you (Art. 22 GDPR; Art. 21 FADP).

13. Changes

When Libria changes (for example with accounts, sync and the Plus subscription), this policy will be updated before the new version reaches your phone, with a new date at the top; important changes will also be announced in the release notes and in the app. Previous versions are available on request at gnapoli.dev@gmail.com.

14. Language

This policy is available in Italian and English. In case of differences the Italian text prevails.
